OUCH! Stupid move on both drivers parts. The safety car for jutting out like that and the race car for going too fast during a yellow flag.

Nah, I'd say that was 100% the fault of the safety car. You can't just stroll across the track and give the race cars nowhere to go. Whoever was driving that car had no business being behind the wheel of a car (even a safety vehicle) on a race track.

He should have tucked way to the right side of the track and been much more cautious about closing traffic before making a move across the track. The yellow flag means use caution and don't pass, it doesn't mean STOP, and it doesn't give safety crews the right to be completely stupid.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

I agree the safety car was the cause of the crash, very stupid maneuvers on that guys part.

The reason I also fault the driver is the yellow flag means to slow down to a reasonable speed. You can see tires smoke as he tries to slow down from high speeds once he sees the safety car coming out but he's going too fast to maintain control and straight lines it into the safety car.

What if instead of that being the safety car blocking the track it had been the actual accident that was causing the flag instead?

If he had hit a disabled car with safety personel around it this would have been a lot worse and I'm certain you all would be blaming the driver for running the track too fast under a yellow.

When there is debris on the track (such as a disabled race car), they don't wave a yellow flag. They wave the debris flag so that drivers know there's something on the track.

The race drivers in this instance were doing what race drivers do under yellow. They were driving at a reduced pace (which isn't "slow", just not "flat out") and on-line.

To go along with that, they need to slow down at a reasonable pace. It would not be very smart to lock the brakes and pitch the car into a 4 way skid at the site of the yellow. That is a quick way to guarantee "the big one" will happen behind you as all of the other cars suddenly find you stopped in front of them.

When you race, you are taught to slow down at the yellow, but NOT to come to a quick, sudden stop. Throw in the blind curves of this course with the barricades, and I don't blame the driver for not slowing down too much.

It's the safety car's fault.
