Not sure about scca but the three groups I race with don't look at that kind of stuff other than the once per season tech inspection where you need to show your fire bottle has a current inspection stamp and proper pressure; typically the race to race stuff is just checking for HANS, arm restraints to keep your arms in the car if you were flipping over, and just you have your suit on, harness fastened. Fortunately in my car the fire system is electronically triggered by a closed circuit system with its own control box that has to be armed before the race, so no danger of leaving a pin in the fire bottle but obviously danger of not arming the system; doing that is on my crew's check list before releasing me and there's a sticker on my dash reminding me to double check it. The box is easily reachable though so if the car was on fire and both checks of the box were skipped I could still arm it and deploy.

exactly. That kind of stuff goes through an annual tech. Pretty much all they check at every event is your helmet.

I was paddocked three cars down from Alan, very sad. My friends was the first responder & used 4 bottles on him trying to get him out of the car. His fuel line ran along the tunnel & split, spraying him with fuel. He lost consiousness several times while workers tried to get the car turned of & him out. The lesson is GTFO when the car catches fire. Our grid workers do try to look for pins in the fire system but it's not their responsibility.

Wow, the fuel line was in the car with him? That seems pretty risky.

I guess I'm lucky to have a mid engined car too, the fuel cell and engine are both behind a firewall behind the driver compartment so I'd have to have a pretty nasty wreck for fire to start and make it to me before I could get out, unless of course I'm upside down; it would be a tight squeeze between the area left by the roll bar and body to get out.

it was a pretty interesting start. the red car that got driven over was a friend of a friend. long story short, people checked up, red car got a little loose in checking up mid-turn and Andrew (in the miata) didn't really slow down and just drove completely over his fender. sucks but that's racing.

YouTube - Daytona SARRC 8-9-2009

In car from behind the miata. Pretty sure Scott Finlay's red ITS car just lost it with cold tires.

Looks like the guy in the red car failed to keep his foot on the brake which allowed him to come back onto the track into traffic?
