Ah, I see. So a trusted SAFE member takes you under his wing and sort of acts as your own private instructor. Cool. I think I'd read that before, but just forgotten.

DJBen, I've seen a Z06 run a 2:20 flat at Sebring, so you're pretty accurate there. My best in my Miata was 2:56 or something like that. I think I tripped a 2:48 in Jeff's Nissan once, but I'm usually right around 2:50.

James, you definitely want good fresh street rubber, but I agree that it's best to wait at least a few events before making the jump to race tires.

Have fun!

That is what I wanted to hear. I didn't clearify in my first post that anything would be stickier then what I went out with . What tire compond should I go out with?

BTW, what does one of these track days run with SAFE? I have one track day experience under my belt and did fairly well.

If you mean "costs" there is a $50 annual club membership fee and then each event is $250.

BTW it is an open track format all day. Unlike other clubs there are no run groups with SAFE. No worries about missing your time slot. You go on track when you are ready.

Thats what sells it! I was going to go through Nasa and everything which still is not a bad idea b/c I certainly do still need some instruction. But I paid nearly 400 for one day and probabaly got less than a hour and a half of track time Im almost certain my next track day will be with safe.

And as far as instruction goes, when you race with SAFE are there people out there willing to instruct or can you pay extra like with NASA?

Depends on what you're driving and what size tire you need. Generally speaking, if you can get Falken Azenis in your size... they're cheap and really good for most cars. There are some other street tires that are on par with them. I was pretty impressed with the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01 recently... but it's about twice the price of an Azenis, and certainly not that much better.

The Toyo RA-1 that Twank mentioned are REALLY good tires, but they're not a street tire. They're more of an entry level race tire. Fairly inexpensive (for a race tire), grippy (but not as grippy as they come), and long-wearing (much more so than the more grippy and more expensive race tires).

This is exactly why I have fallen in love with SAFE. I added it up and I got nearly two solid hours of seat time. Where else can you get that?

While there are no specific instructors, I am sure you can ask for some extra help and there will be somebody there to assist you in finding the line. However, should all else fail, do an event at Sebring (or where ever) with a group who's purpose is to instruct their customers and then take what you have learned to a SAFE event. Then after doing a few more SAFE events, go back to that instructor specific school and learn some more. Also, I recommend going to SAFE's Website. SAFE Motorsports - More track for less money! Sebring - Homestead - Moroso

Thanks Twanksta and Loren for these options.

SAFE is not a school. However, like James said, there are plenty of experienced drivers that are willing to ride with you, some may even be instructors for other clubs. Just ask them to ride along and point out what they think you could be doing better.

The amount of track time SAFE offers is unmatched by any other club in the country. We are very fortunate to have a club like this in Florida. Theoretically you could get 5+ hours of seat time in one day for $250!!! But the car might not like that too much.
