Default New format for autocross events.

During the last Brooksville event someone brought up the idea of running our local like a National Tour. I thought everyone was going to jump on him and say that it would be impossible, but on the contrary everyone seemed to like the idea. Who thinks this is possible?

The idea is to have all cars do 3 or 4 runs in the morning and then change the course, and have everyone do 3 or 4 more runs and then take your best run from the morning and afternoon, then add them together for your final score.

Positives -
1. This would work because CFR events at Brooksville have very low attendance.
2. Hopefully the software can handle this, if not National should have software that already does this.
3. Shouldn't take that long to rearrange the course and test drive it for SSS approval.
4. Force me to figure out a course before my 6th run.

Negatives -
1. Re-walking the course may take a long time. (30-40 mins?) Maybe less if we allowed bikes on course
2. Need people to redesign and re-chalk the course during everyone else's lunch break.
3. Lose 2 or 3 runs total.
4. Anymore than 50(?) entrants might be too much to fit in one day.

I'M THERE, that sounds awesome, i'll rechalk it, just point me where to go, just make sure whoever works during lunch either gets to eat before hand, or isn't driving/running in the next run group...wow, thats sad, i'm more concerened about lunch than logistics
and i think we can all take a handful of sandwiches and walk a course

i;m not really bummed about losing a run or 2, hell, i'm just stoked to be out there

and it would spread out working more as well, so you aren't just standing for an hour or whatever on end, split it for two 30 minutes sessions(i get burnt)

This is actually how we run all events with the SCCA in this area. The only difference is the changing the course and adding times together parts.

I'm not local anymore, so take my thoughts for what they're worth...

I'd actually suggest designing a course that's safe in both directions. Everyone would have the opportunity to walk it in both directions in the morning and they could take a quick refresh walk in the afternoon. I know of at least one of Brian's courses that we ran at one event and then reversed at a subsequent event. You might loose a little bit of course diversity, but IIRC, I did well in one direction on Brian's course and horrible the other. And as a bonus, nobody has to redesign or rechalk the course.

If you allow bicycles for 'walking' the course, not everyone will have one, so allowing them won't cut the time. Since the rules do technically prohibit them, somebody will bitch sooner or later. Since the gain is negligable and the reward is listening to people cry, just let everyone walk the course.

That might be pretty cool to do. And in the event of a re-layout, we could always ask someone to make a lunch run for those who are staying behind to rechalk the course.

Everything has a starting point and you work out the kinks from there

I would like to see this happen, it has the opportunity for those to experience a national level that we may not be able to afford to run in or have the means to transport ourselves to

Also if the number of participants is capped, the courses kept to a time that is suitable to allow the runs needed, lunch re arrange, re chalk and rewalk it is another way to make it happen

The idea of a reversible course is a good idea as well, even if it requires minor changes in the course to keep it safe, i.e. the unmovable dumpster at brooksville

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

or you could ditch the practice day on saturday (some weekends not all) & make it an event day, run different courses sat & sun & then combine the best runs. that way its more like a national event. i don't know, i don't autox anymore
