Default WEIGHT REDUCTION ??'s

Whats up guys, I have a EK Hatch nothing too special but Id like to do a lil weight reduction. I was thinking about removing the tar from the floor boards and removing the rear exterior. The goal of my project is to set it up as much for circuit racing as money allows. My main concern of removing the tar is the balance of the car and how the ride will be changed. If anyone has ANY comments on this other than its retared with no reason i need as much advise as possible. PROS vs CONS, why or why not to do it. Thanks in advance!

Also are there any other ways or techniques to reduce some unnecessary weight?

Tar removal...
PROS - Save weight
CONS - Road noise, removing a good ballast (if you need it)

If you're just getting started in motorsports, you'll gain more from honing your driving skills than from weight reduction. Spend the money on track time and tires.

Proof that weight means nothing....

Jesse lost more weight then Jim this year (jesse's actually looking in good shape).

Jim is closer to jesse then he's ever been and beat him in the finale. Same car, Varible is the drivers diet.

Jim's gonna kill me for this....

but infact, Jim lost 170 lbs since 2004's Nationals... Ian, you may be the only one who gets this.

Sorry Jim.

hmm....ok. So is this a it doesnt really effect anything and gut the hell out of it? or is this a dont gut it cuz all in all its really in the driver? My only concern is removing the tar, either way ill strip the rear.

I think what everyone is saying is get really good at driving a street car before you make a race car. In amateur motorsports particularly at the local level, driver is far more likely than car to make the difference. The type of modification that you're talking about would make your car highly unpleasant to drive day to day without giving you any appreciable benefit at an autocross.

Why make it louder inside if you're still 5 seconds off the pace due to driver? Might as well be slow in a comfy car.
