$500 will barley get you an average at best system.

Are you thinking of just adding some bass for now, or are you looking to change out speakers, head unit, etc...? 500$ is going to limit you to a certain level of product, but within that level a nice sounding bass setup can be done.

Default If you only have 500

If you only have $500 to spend on music then I would recomend focusing on your Bass First

The 2000 newer VW's should have have a descent system with it already unless it has been seriously abused already.

So what that means is add some nice bass and $500 can definatly get you some descent bass for inside your car and then later when you get more money you can start upgrading the rest of the system a little at a time.

In my opinion, spending the least amount possible on amplifiers and subs will give you the least amount of quality.

for 500 you could get 2 high quality 10's and a decent amp. heres what you need to be thinking of..

headunit - 150 older yet high quality $250 for a new one, good brand with good eq setting. your gonna need it if all your doing is ading bass. You need to be able to tune your factory door speaker.

Amp. 200 will get you a decent 500 watt amp. Dont spend it on a 1000w cheap as amp. Make sure you spend your money on a high quality amp that puts out what it claims. older rockford 500/2 are pretty good. Jl 300/2 are still pretty cheap.

Subs. Boston,JL w0's,memphis, RE,powerbass are some good subs that offer great sound at affordable rates. I'm not a fan of the Rockford or kicker lower class stuff. I'm sure others people will disagree but that just my opinion

Wiring. you can get a way with 8awg kit. Save yourself some money and work by buying the 4awg kit now. If not than your going to spend more money and do more work later down the road when you want to go bigger.

good luck!

I have no idea why on earth you would recommend upgrading the smallest spectrum of music first... each their own I guess.. do what you want... 500 can get you a GOOD sounding front stage..
