i would build a system simular to what luke81 mentioned, maybe for simplicity use a kenwood excelon 9140, and elimnate the sound processor and crossover as it is built in that unit, over power every speaker in the system and leave gains real low give huge head room. i probable would do 4 - 10's, get damn loud but reproduce all fq very accuratly. you could do a system like that for 5-6K
Aww come on, he wasn't worried about the budget....i was planning to spend more than 5K on the amps alone
But the 9140 would be a good option, it's got enough processing for most systems on the road. I guess the Arc DXE might have been a little overkill

my northern division is an arc dealer also, solid equiptment, but they are proud of it.
I am a big fan of processors, they are not used enough anymore, the thought the head unit can do it along with everyone going cheap. I can not beleive that there is not a easy to use processor that you plug your laptop into and tune, i know there is a few but they are a PIA to use. STEG (focals amp division) which i am also a dealer for, was suppose to have modules that plug in the amps you hook up usb and adjust, you could daisy change them and set crossover points parametric eq and so on, there last model of amps have the port built in them but the modules i have not seen yet.

JL reps have told us that their HD amps are the platform for data communication. There is some discussion privately about how BIG this will be. Both for JL and/or their dealers to see what the amp has been through (when that kid leaves the shop and goes for a screwdriver to crank the gains up), tempuratures, moisture, etc. Also-would make it easily possible to "lock" the amps-similar to what Directed dealers can do with the Bitwriter on the DEI (Viper, etc) alarms.
It would hopefully be tunable, adjustable, etc through use of a USB connection to a laptop. We'll see. This is VERY close on the horizon...

That would be great for any of the higher quality brand amps especially the ability to lock the amp then only authorized dealers could adjust them which would save lots of amps from melt downs.
Or the ability to check and see if there had been voltage drops or gain adjustments, temperature increases or the presence of moisture via some kind of memory programming.
Sounds like a great idea and it would pay for itself relativly quickly because of the amps that would no longer need to be warrantied because of the ability to prevent abuse.

O/T but one my boys was at your shop talking to one of your guys, and they seemed to brag about a full amp install in 18 minutes. Whats up with this?

as far as if someone could do a full amp install in 18 minutes, probably do able by a handful or more of good fast installers under the right circumstances but definatly not a regular occurence
Just my personal opinion though
Now I will say this, that we on a fairly regular basis have people come in at the end of the day and want something done right then, so we will put multiple people on it and knock it out quick like
That actually happens quite often around here
Better > Faster
Just sayin....
Just sayin....
