+1 on the above, especially the fact that these installs stereotype the good shops out there, so when customers come and think labor prices at the 'good' shops are high, they end up paying more in the end for a real shop to redo their nightmare.

Often times it is gratifying though because the customer obviously cares enough to have it redone, so they appreciate your work more than usual.

One thing i notice you didnt mention is the fact that the battery looks like a generic lead-acid... God if i had a nickel for every time i hear about a near-fire accident happen in someone's trunk due to using a gaseous battery...... i'd have two nickels but for the amount of battery-trunk installs out there on the road... i'd say that's a bit much.

non-sealed AGM or Gel Cell batteries LEAK. they have open vents in them for hydrogen gas. If that sucker tipped over, not only would it short out and cause something to catch on fire, the gas already accumulated in the trunk will cause it to probably explode :S

Even if it's a remote possibility, it's still a POSSIBLE risk anyone shouldn't really take.

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

No i figured if the rest of the wiring was this nasty, the work behind the HU must be perfect so why look?
Nah just kidding, i fixed it all! Thankfully they must have not had a small drill bit because the hole the in the firewall was big enough to not slice the power wire, and to let it lots of water!
PO57 - The battery was so generic it had almost no markings on it at all, but was sealed with no vents or caps on it. Otherwise i would have required it to come out for good. I'd rather have swapped it for a smaller Stinger but since we were on somewhat of a budget, some things had to wait. I attached it down and made a cover for it so it's well protected.

And yes, for sure this work was all paid for by a shop. No drunken buddies here, just pro hacks. I do know he purchased the Autotek amp and the kicker subs at the same shop that did the work. I would be very interested to hear what someone who owns a shop putting out that work would have to say about it. Work like this makes ALL of us who work at or own real shops look bad. If i took my car somewhere and paid money for work and got this, I'd question ever paying for work again.

Uuhhmm, that kinda narrows it down since there are only two local authorized Maxxsonics dealers-one in Spring Hill, and one in your Clearwater neighborhood. And I know the one in Spring Hill moves almost NO Maxxsonics equipment (or much of anything for that matter). And I hired their previous installer a while back, and his work is show-worthy, I know it didn't come from there. That leaves the one dealer in your Clearwater neighborhood?

You've got to be kidding me - Unreal...

Heh.. that is some shody work... but ive seen far worse... like 2 amp power wires tied together with some electrical tape over it. for power wire..

Would have hated to pay someone to do that work..

I paid a shop by me to install 4 speakers. 2 in the doors and 2 in the rear deck in a 2001 monte carlo SS..

and hook up a EQ, radio, 2 amps. 2 18"s

Well... they just shoved the speakers behind the door panels and the door panels were bulging. and destroyed my under deck in the rear to make the speakers fit... cut the wiring to my stock Amp...

then the Eq blew up and made my ORion amp catch on fire..

Never again.. I had to go back and redo all of it...

The.. they raped me on a Onstar compatable Harness. and never even installed it.. i pulled the radio out and it wasnt even there... I went back and raised hell... They handed me the adapter (still got it in my garage)

Fucking right connections in Lakeland... More like wrong connections.. they mess everything up....

On second glance I will give a D- for effort... I mean they did fuse twice, used ring terminals instead of shoving wire in and they even used zip ties and tried to clean it up with electrical tape as a substitute for heat shrink!... My favorite part tho is the wire on the floor and the 4 different ground points.

Closing the thread, the OP got his message out - somehow a crappy job was done by SOMEONE, it could have even been the Owner himself that f'ed it up.
Subsequent threads will be closed or deleted, there's really no more need to discuss it.
