Default Pre out voltage?

Why do your speakers get louder with higher pre-out voltage? Does the amp put out more power when it receives more power? If so, what input voltage is an amps output wattage measured at? Ive never thought about it really until a couple days ago.

Thanks,
Frankie

Speakers do not get louder with more voltage on the preamp side.

Higher preamp voltages means a stronger rejection of noise and interference on the signal lines which in turn means cleaner sound from the amplifiers. The gain control on the amp is meant to match the line voltage. Which is why if you look at a quality amp, the lowest gain setting will be the highest voltage (ie 7v) and the highest gain setting will be the lowest voltage (ie .5v).

The amp should be matched so that it produces its maximum wattage at almost the highest volume settings on the headunit regardless of the preamp voltage. The problem is that most people are ignorant of that fact and use the gain setting as a volume knob which results in clipped signals and blown speakers.

Nah, its not in yet. I loaned my friend my fuse and holder. He got one already Im just waiting for him to swap them out. Im also debating if I want to put both of my subs in or just one. I have 2 Rockford T1 10s in a ported box but Im thinking 1 in a sealed box would be better since my whole system is stock. Im not looking to beat the block down, I just want a sub that'll pick up everything and not sound like ass lol
