Default need a little help

i've got everything hooked up and when i turn the volume up the sub will cut out like distorting the bass and then cut back on and then cut back off.. it only does it when i have the volume up though.. it's been years since i've fucked with any systems so i have no idea what it could be..

Check if you have the gains set too high.

There are toooo many different factors. Mainly try that first, get them low as you can. if you can't hear anything having them that low its because the amp is too weak for the subs. Get a stronger amp.

also check grounds., make sure you have a SOLID ground connection and the ground is equal beefiness as power

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

Sounds like protection mode. What amp? What subs? How are you subs wired to the amp (series, parallel)? Sounds like the ohm load is dropping to low and sending the amp into protection.

yeah its definitely protection mode, but given the fact that he says it only happens when he turns it up kinda rules out the Ohm load factor..... unless he had it at a ridiculously low ohmmage and the amp was overheating quickly (but wouldn't explain the volume = drop)

I'm feeling its his grounds.

low ohms will send it into protect if it pulls a lot of power.

x2, you can run a lot of amps at too low of an ohm load at low volume. More info would be helpful here though, VC Config of the sub, describe how it is wired. What size power and ground, what kind of amp.

But you talk of distorting bass, I would say set your gains properly. JL Audio's website has a good tutorial on how to set the gains.

you can run at too low of an ohm load at low volumes? shit i didn't know that, I was always told that the amp would see the resistance as too low and throw into protect mode automatically.

Cool.

so far from chatting with him we have established the following:

Its a 4channel amp

He has 8ga power and ground

Only two channels are in use to drive a dual 4ohm sub

From this im betting that the sub is wired to 2ohms and that is the problem.

bridged really only accepts 4 ohms doesn't it?

I really wanted to do this with my audiobahns and the phoenix gold, when i came across this roadblock..
