The receiver position will also affect the battery consumption. Check the power consumption with the remote at rx/tx with the power saver off at 0ft, 300ft, and 600ft. The further away from the car, the more power the remote will use to maintain communication. When you go out of range, the remote stays at high power searching for the car every few minutes which will also reduce power.

Its been a while since I did the checks but heres a ballpark of what you should get:

.75ma at the car
1.25ma ~300ft
2.15ma ~600

I did my tests on the 791 05 series alarm with a Duracell 1.5v AAA battery- the remotes may be more efficient now.

Now that I do the math it looks like a much shorter than 6 month life span but Ive never seen 1 month changes on any of my installs.

I have a Code, my mother has a code, my step father has a 791xv on its fourth month, and I have two clients who have the 791xv I've installed and yes I make service calls to change the battery and chat it up. Super service comes with the install.

I replaced one at the six month mark. But in your defense the 2way was installed because it wasnt a dd and he wanted to remote start to maintain the battery without sitting with it for 30 minutes so the remote probably had light use. My other client probably changed it himself.

Code or Viper it is.. I fare myself pretty good at 12v and car audio - how difficult to install an alarm myself if I've never done it?

Its a little harder than installing a system - any joe can hook up a couple wires and blast away, but its not rocket science.

If you have basic knowledge of circuit isolation(diodes and relays) and read a few online articles about the different interfaces you can do it yourself in a few hours.

In my opinion, the hardest part is wire placement to keep it clean and looking stock. After all, the point of hte alarm is to make it harder to steal your car. If you that go in and splice up all the wires in obvious points with butt connectors that scream aftermarket its going to actually make it easier to hotwire/steal the vehicle.

If you purchase a Code Alarm off eBay, make sure you are buying a complete alarm. The newer, low end Code Alarm stuff is all modular. You will need the base module (CA-425 I believe) and then whatever added feature modules you would like (keyless entry, 2way, remote start, etc). It looks cheap (most modules are around $30-40 shipped) but when you add all the features you want its cheaper to buy an all-in-one unit.

**Shamless Plug** I have a CA-670 2way for sale in the For Sale forum /**Shameless Plug**
