I have a kicker L7 12' and im trying to decide if i get the 400.1 will it be enough watts to get it to sound good, or should i spend $75 more and get the 750 x1 amp, im running this on a sealed box and i have a 1 farat RF capacitor, i heard these speaker ask fo a lot of watts, i want it to sound good and dont want to regret anything, whats the best way to go, or what are you guys running on your L7's?

 

run the 750.1 and get a ported box,and it will pound.

 

i cant go ported, i have a infinity qx56 and i dont want to put down the 3rd seat, so i have to get a small box and i have a sealed box that is perfect for this sub, i want to go ported but cant, will this speaker hold all 750 watts even with the capacitor wich will bring up the watts even more?

 

First off, a capacitor will not "bring the watts up even more." In fact, more than likely it won't do a whole lot of anything. Personally, I'd sell the cap and put the money towards upgrading your factory wiring (alternator to battery, and grounds) as well as an Optima battery. Second, I'd get the biggest possible amp...go for ATLEAST the 750w choice. Third, sealed OR ported...you're going to need lots-o air space. I'd go with ATLEAST a 1.5 cubic sealed box. a capacitor will only raise the peak watts and then only a marginal amount (maybe 5-10%) capacitors are only meant to smooth out the voltage dips and aid in reducing light dimming and alternator stress.

You will never regret extra power. The L7s are somethign like 350wRMS per channel, so a 400 watt amp will not push them to anywhere near what they are capable of. the 750 is pushing it.

You can always go ported, you just need a custom built box that will optimize space and take into acount the T/S specs for your subwoofer. You can build a ported box in an equal space as a sealed with a noticable gain in output without sacrificing a large amount quality. Especially if you are looking more for loudness than perfect song reproduction. (which is the only reason you would be using kicker speakers)

 

thanks for the info the l7 rms handling is 750 rms so the kicker 750.1 amp should do the trick, ill get that amp and checj into the optima battery. thanks

Ensure that you purchase the 06s12l74 4ohm DVC or you will only be getting 450 wattsRMS from the amp... and then only at the magical 14 volts it is rated at.

 

750 IS 375watts per coil, i have the 2 ohm version of the solobaric, is that going to be a problem im getting this amp http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-06-Kicker-Mo...QQcmdZViewItem 750x1 @2 ohms thats what my speaker will hold

2ohm DVC will give you 1ohm or 4ohm. 1ohm will without a doublt put the kicker into protect every 15 minutes. 4ohm will sacrifice 50-60% of your power. So that would be a negative on the kicker.

Look for an amp that maxes out its power output into 4ohm bridged(mostly class a/b 2channel amps max at 4ohms) OR get a 1ohm stable amp.
