Cdt Cl-61
I found a link in this forum to thezeb selling them at only 150 bucks and I started a frenzy of research trying to figure out if I should drop my last paycheck on them, this is what I have so far:
So, now that my silly little list is done with, here are the questions:
Do any of you own these speakers? Do you think they were worth the money?
More importantly, would you mind letting me listen your speakers? I read that there wasn't a dealer for CDT in this area. I'll probably just go ahead and buy them because they'll be eleventy billion times better than my one stock dsm speaker (even though I won't be amping them until I have money again- this summer), but I'd like to hear them if possible.
- They were recommended by a lot of you guys.
- They're half price and I can (just barely) afford them.
- Lots of people on sounddomain like them.
- They supposedly work well the way I plan to install them, with the tweeter in the stock dash location.
- They have a 2 7/8 inch mounting depth. I had a hard time finding the specs on what speakers should fit my car, but I now believe that without a doubt my car will take 6.5" speakers with a 2 3/16" mounting depth, and probably the 2 7/8", at most I'll have to make a spacer and they should still fit under the factory door panel.
- They are supposed to sound "natural", whatever that means (found that in a lot of posts about them).
- Some people complained about the tweeter, but these people seemed like people who just wanted really sharp, intense highs.
So, now that my silly little list is done with, here are the questions:

I've installed an entire CDT system in a friend's car. We used that line of 3-ways (tweeter, 4", crossovers) but swapped in the EuroSport line 6" mids. It sounded good, but didn't live up to my expectations from all the hype. In other words, it didn't blow me away like I expected. I think there's other speakers out there that offer comparable sound quality for a comparable (if not less) price. For example...I personally have the CPe line of Crystal componenets and think they sound just as good. Not to mention I got them on sale for only $115 on Sounddomain.....they've since gone back up though.
My friend doesn't live down here for you to take a listen, but he does have a website where you can see his equipment and install I did. Check it out..... http://www.sounddomain.com/id/wallyfingeredmx6

You'd think so, but did you take a look at the link? This wasn't just some good equipment thrown in a car...this install took 3 weekends and alot of research to complete. I can usually design, build, and install a complete system in a single weekend. We built the car to compete in SQ competitions. The entire car was stripped and sound damped, custom fiberglass kickpanels were fabricated (there are no production kicks for the mx-6) and the tweets and 4" mids were aimed for optimal imaging. Then you might say, well they were probably underpowered...well, I would think 100w RMS per side is more than enough. And on top of all that, we even put in an AudioControl linedriver to boost and filter the signal, along with a 1 farad cap with digital readout to monitor and maintain the current. I'm not saying it doesn't sound good...it does. Ofcourse it would put to shame anything sold in Best Buy or Circuit City. But for all the hype and hoopla over CDT, I definetly wouldn't say they're "the best". Maybe my expectations were just set too high.

Well, that wasn't as glowing a review as I would like to hear for a speaker set I can't really use until I get my car running, which will be this summer. Thanks TBSpyder, I'll use the money to fix up my goped instead, and just steal my mom's crappy nissan pathfinder 6.5's when she upgrades this month. They're 4 ohm 35 watt units, way better than my 8 ohm 15 watt blown speakers.
Will you both be out at the cars for cancer show? I will probably be out there, I could find you then.
