apparently I can't install a CD player anymore...
Well its the same ground that the stock stereo was grounded with, shouldn't it be fine. I am only running the internal amp in the cd player. Are you saying that poor grounding is whats causing the *pop* when I turn the stereo off?
you prob. have a bad factory amp located in the rear pass. sidepanel right above the wheel well..... if you get the bypass plug this should sove you problem

Is this a common problem on explorers? I have the whistling now that correlates with RPM as well. I thought somehow the ground thats in the stock harness wasn't good enough or something. What type of bypass plug do I need? Its pretty damn annoying and I've never had any kind of trouble with just a aftermarket headunit.
Alternator whine/engine noise. You can try a ground loop islator to stop the noise...but it also signifigantly cuts down your volume. I personally like Pioneer decks, but a friend of mine also had one in his xterra and had the same problem...he switched to an Alpine deck and never heard a thing.

OHHhhh You've got an explorer. I was trying to figure out what car you had..
Yes, the Explorer has the factory amp. To get past it, you either get the bypass harness, bypass the amp yourself (cutting and splicing), or by wiring the amp remote turn-on to the power wire and grounding the amp ground.

And to ground the internal amp, which wire would it be? Thanks for the help.

But you don't need to do that. In my old explorer, I just wired the amp remote to regular power wires and that was enough for me.
Wire all the blue and blue/white wires (in both harness and aftermarket cd player harness) to power wires..Tape or wirenut them all together.
