cleaning your chain
does anyone use brake parts cleaner to clean their chains? i used it one time and damn..... it took off all the nasty grease asap.
is it safe to use for chains?

i wouldn't use the chlorinated brake cleaner as that will swell o-rings. Non chlorinated is probably fine but I am not 100% on that. Suzuki recommends kerosene

i dont think you want your chain squeekey clean, i cant imagine your chain being full of globs of dirt. otherwise it needs to be lubed up regularly

a clean chain helps prolong the life of the spockets and chain. regular brake clean works fine. don't forget to spray the front sprocket area. let the brake clean sit a few minutes and rinse with water. for heavier build up, spray again and use a brush.
right now, mine is the cleanest its ever been.. then again, it just got replaced along with new sprockets! i'm bad about keeping mine clean, but i'm going to try to keep this set cleaner.

Mines filthy as well...too many rainy days
so do you just spray the kerosene on and let it sit then rinse?

if you guys are CLEANING your chains, take them off the bike. I always have cleaned my chains in a bucket of diesel fuel (because its cheap and readily available). Let them soak for a few minutes then use a parts cleaning brush and go over it. When done I use an air compressor to blow all the grit out and in the end i end up with a spotless chain. Put it on the bike go down the road briefly to heat the chain up, then apply ur fav lube
