FearThe4Doors

mpbiv
08-07-2002, 04:55 PM
Well, one of my fellow co workers who is also going to UF is selling a 95 neon for 500. He claims it has bent valves from the timing belt snapping. I wanted to check out whether this was possible.

FearThe4Doors
08-07-2002, 05:03 PM
just might be..

BIG_Truck_Driver
08-07-2002, 06:05 PM
anything is possible.

Bent 3 exhaust valves in my 72 318 when the Timing chain went.
I can't imagine that the motor was an interference motor due to it being an american v8 from the early 70's.

Neon Interference engine, Walter's truck, Non Interference. Pushrod engines are overhead valves, where as Over head Cam engines are Cam(s) over the valves/ or in the head depending how you look at it.

damn, that sucks shit. I should do a belt on karens car soon. Its at around 75-80k i think.

BTW Lori, do SOHC's need valves adjusting? She's got a ticking noise in the top end like it's low on oil, but its not.

CrazyMoparGirl

Timing belt isn't required until 110K as far as the ticking my Neon ticked and we came to the conclusion that mine was my injecytors ticking. We dumped so Injector cleaner and did a baisic tune up and changed belts and the ticking quieted some. I had 30psi of oilat Idle.

on older V8's it depends whne the chain lets loose. ON the 440 I had it went at idle no interefence, but Walters truck, we we taking off from a light. So.........the cam stopped turning brfore the crank snd smack. It made its own clearance.

FearThe4Doors
08-08-2002, 03:33 PM
i would think the cam would always stop turning before the crank. The crank spins pretty freely and has the momentum.. the cam has to push all the springs and would come to an immediate stop

Speaking of Neon's, I saw a bad ass neon tonight at the track, ran 14.0-14.2, had a nice dual cam lope to it too, low 14 may not sound like much but I'm 1100ft above sea level, OMG was it nice too bad the owner was a dick.

FearThe4Doors
08-10-2002, 11:48 AM
Lori... work me out a trade here! I want your ACR engine! It was just noted that the driver and pass side engine mounts for 2.0s are a direct bolt in for 2.2s! The front reqires a little fab, but nothing major!

EEeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now you got me thinking since the Neon DOHC motor is a cousin of the T3 motor in Spirit or Daytona R/T, man! i miss my Spirit R/T :( hey i do have access to Neon motors don't know what type but will find out soon as far as the distributor just run it of the cam like modified T3's so you can still use the stock or modified T2 computer.
p.s. are you sure about the pass. mount?

FearThe4Doors
08-10-2002, 04:39 PM
Both Neil Emiro and the guy who helped him make the T3 neon confirmed this.

flybyuin2.2
08-10-2002, 06:06 PM
i believe he ran a T2 module with it too. i guess i'll pick up a Neon motor and start a new project .

CrazyMoparGirl
08-10-2002, 07:42 PM
I think you can use any 2.0L block, can't remeber for sure, but any DOHC engine is just like the one I have, PCM is the difference

mpbiv
08-10-2002, 08:14 PM
does this mean mounting a 2.4 in a K wouldn't be very hard?????????

Damn why do I have to hear this right before I am planning to get a SOHC turbo engine, now I am getting crazy thoughts of a DOHC 2.4 Turbo

CrazyMoparGirl
08-10-2002, 08:16 PM
I was thinking the same but in a certain OMNI or possibly a Dakota or possibly that Aries I have sitting in Zhills

leadfootedfool
08-11-2002, 11:12 PM
oooo, all motor 2.0 in the omni, all motor 2.4 in the dakota, and big hairy turbo 2.4 in the aries.

Whyss?? I don't know, just sounds cool.

CrazyMoparGirl
08-11-2002, 11:14 PM
Id rather use the 2.4 than the 2.0, cause I just dont like the 2.0 all those years of trying to build one up all for nothing but a 15.8 1/4 et

leadfootedfool
08-11-2002, 11:16 PM
Well, hopefully I can persuade back to the happy little revvy 2.0. But I have no time slips and no tuning to the motor yet.

CrazyMoparGirl
08-11-2002, 11:17 PM
