Evil GSR vs Older GTI (swap?)

I was heading west on Gulf to Bay with my girly coming home from Tampa... I was merely cruising and noticed an older GTI like around late 80s maybe... with a newer V6 badge on it... I assumed it is a swap and merely admired it.
We came up to the light for Missouri and I was behind him in the turn lane... I noticed the guy looking back at me often as if he was casing my ride... which looks stock as hell...
The light turns green and he guns it... well shit. I better get on his ass...
I slam the gas and catch up in no time after of course going through all his nice black exhaust smoke...
I gained on him in no time... and had to turn off right after I was slightly past him... I dunno who it was... but they lost... Any of the VeeDubs know this guy? Maybe hell be brave enough to line up with me when I know I am racing...
