they went in the wrong direction with the R32 because it's still a portly brick. They were toying with a 3.6L motor for a while, weren't they? but I heard they were having problems with the DSG and awd package handling the power?

The 3.6 is an even narrower V (10.6 degree as opposed to 15 degree on the 3.2), so it added some length to the motor which lead to "packaging" problems in the Golf platform. It might turn up in the Golf VI, but who knows. As for DSG, yes, it has a torque problem, supposed max torque rating is about 250 due to the small clutches in the gear box. That may be addressed with the next gen DSG which is a dry clutch set-up and may be a seven speed. The Haldex AWD can take the abuse all day long, ask HPA or Streetwerke about it.

yeah after I posted I remembered seeing a highly worked HPA R32 in a mag making like 600whp on the unmolested haldex.

too bad they decided to stick with the 3.2 due to dsg constraints. would have been wiser IMO to throw in a good close ratio 6sp and the larger motor to make the portlyness less noticeable.

Every other country can get the R32 with a 6-speed manual.
