Well guys I was out in the Cobra the other night looking for something to race when I see this Z28 turning on to the road I am on. It took the guy a while to get up next to me even with me going slow and almost no traffic. This made me think the guy wouldnt be game but he proved me wrong. It was a black 95-97 Z28 not sure if it was a 6spd or an auto but it looked completely stock. Anyway we catch a light together and I can tell he wants to race. I didnt wanna race from a dead stop because my car will not get any traction in first gear from a dead stop so the light turns green and we both leave the light kinda normal he takes off a little faster than me but I leave it in first gear and get next to him and hit it. He must have known what I was doing because he hit it to at exactly the same time. I pull through 1st almost instantly spinning the tires I bang it into 2nd and lay about 10 feet of rubber I look over and the Camaro is right next to me dead even. Second goes by pretty quick and I throw it into 3rd at about 4500rpm in third I notice I am starting to pull on the Z28. At 5700 rpm I shift into 4th gear and look over to see the camaros front bumper is at my rear tire. I hold it in 4th for a little while and see the Z28 is not making any progress so I let off because hell we are doing 110mph in a 35mph zone! I am in the right lane the Z is in the left lane on a 4 lane road 2 lanes each direction. The guy in the Camaro drove like a nut and kept going a little ways after I let off. Up ahead I notice another mustang turning into the street going our direction. The guy in the mustang goes for the left lane which is the one the camaro guy is in going at least 75-80mph at this point I think the guy in the mustang sees how fast the camaro is going and he tries to go to the right lane well guess what?so does the guy in the camaro because he is trying to fly around this mustang. So the guy in the camaro darts over and back and almost loses control of his car. I bet he missed that mustang by 6 inches. At this point I think to myself Thank god I let off when I did or this would have been one bad accident

 

nice kill and from the description of his driving skills sounds like the guy in the z28 is an ex ricer turned oatmealer

Good kill. Youre right good thing you let off when you did or it could have turned very ugly very fast.

 

King Cobra Do u have a 96+ cobra? If so shifting at only 4500 and 5700 is not your optium shift point. A modular 4v should shift every gear at 7k. If u would of shifted at 7k u would have spanked him even more. But good kill. Maybe Ill see ya one day on the streets and hopefully at desoto. Mark

KING..yeah i noticed that with the EFI 5.0s .. power seems to drop after 4500.. my carbed 85 pulled pretty well to 5500.. but i also had the b grind cam which was good to 6k with a performer RPM.. but great kill...

i miss being able to pull stunts like that

Autocrossing is great.. now if I could just figure out drag racing...

 

This was also an LT1 the LS1 will hand me my ass in a bag (well at this time anyway ) I know this because it has happened more than once LOL. But if someone wants to race I will run its all in good fun. Besides winning when you should not is the best high ever ( well almost).
