Money maker hard at work.
Well, the call was made 3 weeks ago, and was to take place 2 weeks ago but things got called off due to mechanical failures by both parties. But no worries, they got the run in anyways. I've never really posted anything like this before, i don't believe anyone has seen anything like this before, not anyone who frequents War Stories anyways.
We mosied out to our secluded Ocala spot last sunday afternoon, turned down the road and parked off toward the field. Got out of the truck and unlatched the ride off the trailer and fired up those 8 cylinders of money making get-go and backed her off and parked her up next to the rig. Popped the hood and ran through all the plug gaps, ripped the covers off and did a quick lash check, pulled out the gun to make sure the time was on, adjusted the wheelie bars, dropped the tire pressures, and barked the bottle a couple times to make sure all the noids were firing and the push was working.
Meanwhile, the other car had shown up and been doing their own thing to make sure they were ready. As we finished up, we went out to the old patches of VHT in the road and laid some fresh sticky down, busted out the torch and got it prepped. As i walked across it and had my shoe snatched from my foot i knew it was going to be good. The owners finally come to an agreement of what is on the line for the race, $2500 is the main wager, with of course probably another 2-3k from associated parties as side bets. Both cars pull out onto the road, both engines making your chest pound with a turn of the crank. The smell of alcohol from one car, N2O from another (the VP fuel, not nitrous, incase someone was to be a smartass), and the sweet aroma of freshly lain vht. They kick the line lock on and smoke the tires one car after the other to clean the dirt off from the field they had just pulled through. They roll up just behind the vht and get directed to the fresh patch and both signal they are ready to go. The guys at the end of the marked 1/4 are signaled aswell and one walks to the middle of the road, flashlight in hand, lit up facing us. The cars get on the tbrakes and wait for the flashlight to go off and it does. They leave on 2 and 3 wheels, tracking straight as arrows down the road door to door, the car with the C4 hits 2nd and it still looks dead even as they are getting smaller and smaller, right after they hit 2nd and 3rd gear (other car was on a glide) they still were neck and neck jockeying for position and it was finally over. The guy I rolled out there with had won by about a bumper-fender. Both drivers come back and shook hands on a good race, the owners had a little chat and the money exchanged hands with no problems, the way it should always be done. Once it was finished, we loaded the ride back on the trailer, jumped in the truck, and got ourselves some dinner and made the trek back home to pinellas.
I hope you all enjoyed this. And no, no information will be divulged about either car. and it honestly wouldn't matter. The motor gets thrown in a new chassis atleast once a year almost.
