I'm heading home on the bayside bridge sat. night when a red RX8 pulls beside me nudging for a run...i look over and nod we are going 60mph... i give him the jump and let him downshift 1st.... then i down shift and tend to put a football feild on him when i bang through the gears.... so we stop @ the stop light after the bridge on McMullen Booth and run from a dig...bammn 4-5 cars in to mid 2nd gear and shut it down....... are the 8's really this slow or did this kid just not know how to drive??????

Yeah, the Rx-8 is slow compared to an SS (especially LS1 - is 98 LS1?). It will run a high 14 with an amazing 7k RPM launch, but I think most will run mid 15s.

You could have a run with this "slow" rotary though

i drove an rx-8, they have good power for how small the engine is but, for trying to race anybody the car is just to slow, but is still a fun car to drive

 

Yep, take it to the twisties and there would be a major difference.
