Gooney-bird style for a slow LT1.
A few weeks ago I was heading home at night from work on Ehrlich when I'm at a stoplight and this yellow Skittle rolls up. My first SRT-4 challenge...hooray Skittles! Light turns green and we do a slow roll. He's queefing his BOV next to me and I hit it first and instantly put about 2 cars on him but he had to slow for traffic in his lane. So I move around the one car traffic and get in front of it and let him get next to me. We slow to about 30-ish and I'm waiting for him to go, then we pretty much hit it at the same time and I proceed to put about 6 cars on him this time.
I slow and roll my windows down when it finally clicks that it's my neighbor a few apts. down from me. I give him a thumbs up and we head home where I talked to him and found out he is basically new to the racing thing and is still learning to drive his Neon. He took it to BMP when it was stock and said he got a 14.1 out of it. It now has a BOV and a Mopar Stage-1 thingy, but otherwise it was stock. He had just got done installing the BOV when we ran into each other. Cool guy, and nice yellow SRT. I really dig the seats, way better than my Z-28's supportless, slide-all-over crap, but it could do without the shopping cart handle on the trunk.
This past Sunday, northbound DM near Van Dyke, I'm in a bunch of traffic minding my own business as I pass an old 300ZX; the generation right after the 280ZX's, early '80's or so. Next thing I notice is he is on my ass then he zips around and does a fly-by. Traffic clears and I chase, but traffic is approaching quickly so I slow, but he does a pretty stupid move and goes in the breakdown lane on the far right and cuts off some lady in a Civic. We both catch a light and we talk and I call him crazy for that stunt he pulled back there, and I ask if he is on the TR boards and he says no (I was thinking he was that guy Mattback with the pretty fast old 300), but he says he knows of Matt. He asks if I'm stock, which I pretty much am; CAI and a cutout that was capped at the time. I say I'd like to run you from a dig, he cockily states he runs and beats Z-28's "all the time" from a dig. Then he speeds off.
So I slowly weave out of traffic as it clears, and he is far ahead but slows when he sees me. Traffic far behind, he slows to a 35-40 roll, I match his speed, his passenger counts to 3 and I proceed to put about 6 cars on him then slow for more upcoming traffic. We pass up traffic to get in front, he catches up, pass. says to slow to 10 and we do, he counts off again and on 3, I make it look like the Enterprise engaging warp drive. They pull up and compliment my ride and driver says he needs a front-mount. Then I notice he is rolling 3 deep while I'm by myself, but I figure my car weighs more so it kinda evens out. So I'm happy, but too bad I had to go to work and miss out on the real Sunday extravaganza.
