I would change that "could" to a "should"! The JDM EVO much more of a car than its USDM counterpart.

The VF39 in the STi is very nice turbo and should scale nicely. The 34 can run 17-19psi all day long and flows fairly well. Remember that the USDM STi also gets all the goodies of the JDM car+0.5L. It's also making 300bhp on only 14.5psi of boost. With forged internals, AVCS, beefy clutch and trans, this car should easily be a 400bhp+ daily driver. My guess is Easy Street's WRX will continue to be the king of track-only Scoobs, but street driven STis in the 450bhp+ will certainly not be unheard of. The JDM EVO is a badass car, but the USDM model was neutered in too many ways for my taste. The STi, on the other hand, got a nice big boost from the extra displacement, something no other STi has. The tuning potential is huge, especially since the stock boost is relatively low. Back all that up with the STi 6spd, DCCD and beefed up front/rear diffs and I think you've got a very stout package. Not holding it up as the almighty, but you were definitely selling it short.

I'll agree that the STi understeers, but that's nothing a set of coil-overs, sways, mounts and strut bars won't fix.

Sorry to jack your thread DinoZ. I hope any potential STi owner you come up against in the future is a little more willing to answer your call than the yellow EVO described above.

The STi put it down on an AWD as well. A slightly modded STi (downpipe, cat-back) made ~285whp on the same dyno. That engine and turbo setup are going to scale very well, methink.

When you guys find an STI or EVO that runs very low 12's or high 11's, let me know.

 

By the way... before I had the attention of the Evo, I smacked down a guy in a red RX-8 who thought he was king shit of Tampa. He did spin the tires a little off of the line, and he did bark 2nd... I couldn't see anything much past that, because I was too far ahead of him.

When is Mazda going to come up with something original? They took the back window of that from a 2nd gen Camaro, they took the wheels from a Lightning, and they took the doors from a Saturn... I'm sure there is more, but I didn't get close enough to see more.

 

There's a guy who goes by alfriedsq on NASIOC.com(check the Proven Power Bragging forum, he's ALWAYS posting there) with an EVO that clocked an 11.89 (if memory serves). He had a horrendously tuned STi conversion prior to the EVO that ran 11s as well. I've known of this guy for quite sometime and people who have seen him run claim that he is a horrible driver, so that EVO could be good for a mid-11 or better. Who knows.

I'm assuming you meant local, which he ain't, but they're definitely out there.

I keep hoping Mastro will build their STi up to a significant power level, but so far she's bone stock. Everyone is awaiting parts from the major manufacturers, so a lot of people are stuck with basic stuff like exhaust and boost controllers for the time being.
