Should be around 3.5k-4k to get you you where you want to be hp wise. Cheaper than a "good" S4 and a lot cheaper than swapping in any motor or modding an S4 to stage 3 #'s. What year is your A4?

here is a brief list and prices:

turbo ~$1000 new maybe less
manifold: spa manifold $395
turbo lines gaskets etc...: ~$300
tuning ~$600
exhaust: ~$700
injectors: ~$250
clutch: ~$500

total: ~$3745

could be more could be less...depends on where and what conditions you get the parts from.

it's a 97 so it's a aeb .... but if i go bigger turbo i'm definitly gonna build the whole engine(pistons, rods, balance the crank, head work, etc.) i just wasn't sure how reliable the 1.8's were but what you guys say it sounds pretty reliable as long as i build it. the motor has 140,xxx miles on it, so that's another reason if i go for more power that i'm gonna build the motor, not just boost it to hell like some people do.

does the gt3076r turbo spool up fast? i know the more power you make with a turbo car the more tubo lag you'll have, due to bigger turbo=more air to spool it. i just dont wanna have to hit 4000-4500 rpm to get it to spool. i would prefer it to be around 3000-3500rpm, but if not then i guess it is what it is.

At that power range, you should be making enough torque to kill the clutch and possibly grenade the 5 speed tranny
of course i would replace the clutch when i do the build but what are the chances the tranny will go? what is a good power range to keep the tranny from dying?

If you don't abuse it excessively, then it will take it for a while. But if you really plan to put that power to use a lot, you could swap in an 01E (from an S4, not a direct swap) or maybe one of the 6 speeds from a B6 A4 (not sure what kind of torque they can take).

The only thing I would research a bit on your end would be tuning. The 97 MY is very touch and go when it comes to available tuners. The GT2871R eLim woud probably be your best bet if you want a decent spool and daily driveability. The 01A is pretty solid and should hold up but you could always swap in an S4 trans (01E) if you want. It wouldn't be that hard but it wouldn't be cheap either.

The 01E was rated at 450 Nm by Getrag (which is about 330 ft lbs) and it is a stronger tranny than the 01A. You will definitely be at the limit if you reach your power goals.
