thinking about buying vdubb
So i got a nice chunk of change hanging around and want to buy something but want to consider all my options.. Ive never owned a vdubb, mainly mustangs, mini trucks, and street bikes. All my buddys say vw is expensive and isnt worth it cause nothing is cheap, but I really like the sound of the vr with a nice exhaust. Im thinkiing of buying eather a mk2 gti or mk3 jetta/gti. Right now im kinda torn between buying another mustang, building a mini truck or 240sx or a vw. Anyone have anything encuraging to persway me

VW Caddy (A1/MK1 pickup), slammed on its nuts with a VR6 turbo under the hood. You can have everything you want right there (mini truck, power, vw, VR sex sound), if you want it.

Over the years I have discovered the people that say Volkswagens are problematic or expensive/difficult to fix have zero first hand experience with the cars. Typically it is a friend of a friend who once had a _______ VW that had _______ problem and therefore they are all pieces of crap.
I started out as a die hard Ford fan with a secret love for VW. Never went VW because I listened to these people. Finally saw the light and three Volkswagens later (2004.5 Passat, 2007 Rabbit, 1989 Jetta) I see these people did not know what they were talking about. Based on my own exeriences I don't see these cars being much more expensive to repair than a comparable domestic vehicle. My '04.5 V6 Passat with every electrical luxury known to man had ZERO major issues in the two years I owned it. Our '07 Rabbit has also been a great car...we are the original owners and have 68k with no problems (knock on wood).
Long story short, like any used car do your homework. The majority of the electrical issues you hear about with the VW are from idiot prior owners doing half assed electrical work...whether it be a simple stereo install gone wrong or bypassing the ignition/wipers/headlights/whatever with their own wiring/switch instead of fixing it properly/easily with parts that really aren't that expensive.

ive hada mk2 jetta, two B4 passats, a mk3 gti, and three corrado's. other cars ive had are honda, acura, oldsmobile. ill always stay with VW now that ive had experience to work on them. once you know them, its fine to maintain. if you get one because you think its cool and then something goes wrong, then you dont want to have a VW.
i completely agree with the above statement where most electrical issues are stupid previous owners, find a good vw and keep it a good vw and youre set
and p.s. if you want persuasion, meet up with me and ill bring you for a ride in the vr6 turbo, talk about a good sounding car!

only time parts are expensive are when they are at the stealership. at that point you are getting raped weither its a small trim piece or w/e.
sites like vwvortex.com keep parts cheap, as well as junk yards and what not. mk3 parts are easy to find, and now that the mk4 is gone i see its easier to find them in the junk yard as well

you can also get parts from urotuning.com germanautoparts.com and ecstuning.com and you wont get raped on the prices for all the parts. and vw to me seem like any other car. as long as you maintain them they will last forever. my mk2 is about to roll over 350xxx miles and ive never had a major problem with it just the regular maintenance parts just from wear and tear. just dont be an idiot if you do things to them do it right
I agree with every one here. When i bought my audi every one wanted to put me down and give all there great wisdom and input but none ever drove or owned one. Its a car like anything else you maintain it and research before purchase and you'll never go back
