Default Steering rack issues...need help

Today a friend and I decide to tackle the tie rods, steering rack boots, and ball joints on my '89 Jetta with power steering. Right side goes okay...get the new tierod and boot on with minimal swearing. Move to the left side. I remove the boot and the little tube that goes into the hole in the boot comes out with the boot. It probably pulled about half way out before I realized what was going on. I try to put the tube back into the rack but I can't get it all the way in.

What are my options? Can I pull the tube all the way out and run it as is? Is there some way I can reinstall it or what? I consulted my Bentley and there is nothing on this topic whatsoever.

Nevermind. It was a long day and I assumed the worst. Took a break, revisited, and realized it was outside the rack. Fixed it and everything is good.
