Need Help Bad
I just recently was given a 1992 VW Jetta GL 1.8 5spd, and was wondering what can be done engine wise with swaps, etc. VW is a whole new world for me and im lost with this car... Was wondering maybe a VR6 drop or such...?
There are many engines you can swap into an A2 bodied VW. A Vr6, 1.8t, and a 16v motor all have been done. The VR6 swap can be done since the Corrado was based on the A2 platform also.

Vr6 is probably the most logical way to swap a engine in there . If you go with anything else it's going to be very pricey since they have to use the sub frame of a leter model . You still can do many bolt ons with the 8V as well ... just you wont be going as fast as you prolly would like

It's hard to make an a2 (your Jetta) fast with the 1.8 block. If the car is in top tune, your only making 105 hp. My advice is to get a 50 shot of nitrous.
If you don't want to go that way, I would get a 268 ot 272 cam, close ratio tranny and exhaust. You will still only be making 120hp or so, but the car will be a lot quicker.
