Ok so I need to switch out the MAF housing and sensor from my 1.8T to a VR6 MAF housing and sensor. any info on how to do it or where to get these parts at a reasonable price will be greatly appreciated.

It should be just plug and play. Is there a difference between the two? Just asking, alot of manuf. use the same parts and just tune the ecu to look for different values. For new i'd go to justin. For used maybe hit up the vortex or ebay.

thats the thing, I dont know if they are different sizes. I have a custom intake that has the sensor atached to it and its 3 inches in diameter, but some people say that might not work...

the VR housing is bigger, from what i understand the ECU wont be able to read the air flow correctly and possibly make the car run poor.

Yes, you can't just throw on a bigger MAF and expect a stock ECU or any ECU to adjust for it without the correct values. I'm sure there is software out there that you can use to adjust for the MAF change though.

Why are you swapping MAF's? Have you maxed out the 1.8T on power potential? Or are you just wanting a larger dia intake pipe?

I'm doing either a REVO stage 3 tune or Unitronics big turbo file. they both require a VR6 MAF with stock sensor. thats why I was asking.

If the tune is set up for it then there should be no prob. You can get an adapter from autozone for the maf. Look in the rice intake section, you can stretch it a little past what it says you can.

If you're getting it tuned for it then there's not reason it shouldn't work. Next time give more details in your questionare...
