Default mk3 vr problem

Well i just bought a vr gti today, it had been sitting for 3 months without running, but i used started fluid and it worked, great deal didn't turn off only thing i am wondering is what is the problem it WILL NOT start without the started fluid. Any advice? i put STP fuel cleaner and filled the tank with premium. I am thinking it is either the battery, alternator, fuel filter, or the MAF any help is appreciated, will have pics later tomo got to get it buffed/waxed i drove it 60 miles home with no problems what so ever

See if the fuel pump is flowing. If the gas tank had old gas in it, that could be a problem. Fuel goes bad after a couple of months, it will turn into a honey like sludge. I would start there. If you need to use starter fluid to start the car, it's sounds more like a fuel problem, than an electrical issue.

I'd drop the fuel tank, and clean it out with POR-15 marine clean. I used this on a MK1 I rebuilt many years ago, and it worked well. You can also used pick-up about 3 gallons of acetone from Home Depot. The acetone will work the same way as the POR-15.

Also a bad MAF won't keep the car from running.
Bad battery can take a jump, or slightly turnover.
A bad Alt. will drain a battery.

Glad there is some insight as to why it was having a hard time starting. Take it to Les at Eurotech, he will get it fixed for sure.
