Why is it so hard to find MKIII's...
Jeez, I've been searching for an at least somewhat clean MKIII GTI VR6 and it's like the hardest car to find one in decent condition. It's as if the MKIII Golf is one of the hardest cars to find in decent condition...
Any places that would be good to look? I really want a VR6 but it seems that unless I want to shell out too much for one or buy one in crap or modded condition I'm going to be out of luck.

This pretty much says it all.
Here are my personal thoughts. A lot of MK3s are owned by young people. Most young people are unrealistic about what their car is worth. Take the 98 VR on this site that is for sale for $7000 as an example. You add to it that VR6 models were not sold in high numbers, plus they are between 10-14 years old by now so there is a limited supply. Once a tuner has bought one, it gets beat or modded (or both) so that is one less for you to buy. If you search up and down vortex, you will be able to find a good one. The last one I bought was a good deal from an older guy here in Florida I found on vortex.
your best bet is just to find something thats a 2.0 and buy a vr6 from someone or find some car being parted out and use it as a doner car. just do a basic rebuild and do a swap. i wanted the same thing but this way is alot easier, you gain alot of knowledge, and you know what condition the motor is in when you swap it. and its really not alot. im rebuilding a vr and ive spent maby $200 and all i need is a tranny, clutch, shift linkage and ecu then it hopefially going in my 4door. =]
i agree with mr bisquit and brad, look on vortex and get one shipped it will work out better that way..
if your going to do a swap i could think of better motors to swap into a mk3 then the 12v vr for the money.. id rather keep a 2.0 then swap a 12v in it..

What price range are you looking for? My cousin was thinking about putting his up for sale sometime soon. His is super clean, one of the cleanest i have seen. Very nicely modded as well.

I'll check Vortex and Fixx.
slowsohc, PM me a price and I'll let you know. If it isn't ridiculous maybe we could work out a deal.
