overheating

My girl has a 94 Golf. I recently put in a new motor (the same motor just less mileage. The car is not fixed up or anything. The car starts and will run for a minute but then overheats. I replaced the thermostat flushed the radiator everything. I dont know what to do. Please help!

Check your water pump? Maybe its not flowing water.

There may be an air pocket next to the thermostat. The air keeps the thremostat from opening. One way to check for this is to let the car run for 5 minutes and then touch the lower radiator hose. It should be warm or hot If it isnt then that is probably your problem. I always drill a small hole in the thermostat to allow air to pass through.
