Default 2000 jetta vr6 problems

My friends car is throwing a code, took it to auto zone and the reader said its "secondary air injection system incorrect flow" What the hell does that mean? As probable causes it lists faulty air solenoid valve, or faulty air pump motor. I don't know much about German engineering so can someone please explain to me what that means?

thanks,

J

Secondary air injection pump probably shit the bed. Check the vacuum line leading to the pump, I know that seems to break on the MK3 VR6.
