CEL and spudder on 98 golf 2.0
So today driving around in the rain the car started to spudder and the cel started flashing...
car would drive for about a mile or two or three and the light would stop flashing and the car would start to drive fine again...
the car as it sat at idle would lope as if it had a cam in it...
well on the way back the car did it again...and it quit...
after popping the hood when i got home i noticed one of the vacuum lines had been broken in half...so i replaced it and no more leak...
the car runs fine at idle now and i have not noticed any hesitation or flashing cel...
it only seemed to do it in the rain...so im curious if this was just due to the vacuum leak or if maybe the rain had some play in this as well...
what do you guys think aside from going and getting the cel code number...
all help is greatly appreciated!

running factory airbox, or some kind of air intake? I imagine water going through the intake on an OBDI/OBDII would trigger something. Airboxes are our friends

the bottom of the box is there but there is a cone filter on it...i suppose ill make a box and swiss cheese it so it quits this shit...i figured water vapor may have been interfering with the mass airflow sensor....so i think its time to make a box.

Other than "cool noise" factor, that gives no gain at all. Again, airboxes are our friends and are there for a reason. Unless you do some engineering and/or buy a kit that will seal off the intake from the high temps in the engine bay, keep the hole free factory box.
Do a bit of driving to reach normal operating temperature, then get out and pop the hood. Do you want that rush of hot air that hits you in the face like a steaming pile of shit going in to your engine? Or do you want that nice cool breeze from the passenger wheel well going in?

or the factor that there is no box there :-/ i see what youre saying and it make sense...but ill need to buy a filter and top to the box as it was missing and all that was on there was a cone filter
