Ok I dropped it off thursday afternoon for 20k service and to check out the 2nd gear grind. They replaced 1st and 2nd gear synchros and put in a new drivers side airbag. They called yesterday to tell me to come pick it up. I get in the car and start it. BAM! Check Engine Light comes on. I go back inside the service department and tell them. They pull it back in the garage and run a diagnostic to find that the throttle body has gone Kaput! So they ordered me a new one and told me it should be ready today. When I go back Im going to try telling them that theres a problem with my turbo and that it somehow morphed into a 2.0. Maybe theyll swap a new 1.8T in under warranty. Think itll fly? yeah me neither.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! F*ckin 2nd gear grinds on me for NO reason.. Clutch all the way pressed etc. It only happens when im above 4k rpm though when it does happen. Probably happened to me a total of 4-5times since I got it in July 2000.

Take it in and get it fixed like me. I picked up the pimpride today with new drivers side airbag throttle body and new syncrhos. Feels like a new car again!

As most of you know I just bought a new A4 I have seen alot about this problem on vortex. Should I be concerned? Is there anything I can do to avoid it or just wait and see. TIA

Usually shifting a little slower helps things. The 2nd gear grind has plagued all VR6 trannies. Although I have yet to experience it. Anytime I grind is due to lack of hand-foot coordination.
