Hey Im new to TR and was wondering if anyone knows of anyone in the tampa area who has had any success tuning the mk4 2.0 engines. I couldnt afford a vr6 at the time of purchase and the 1.8T wasnt available yet. I feel like a scrub squashing the accellerator and finding not an ounce of HP.

Ive been doing a lot of reading on the Neuspeed SC but it doesnt seem worth the 3k for the gains it provides. If the cost comes down to $2k Id consider it. Right now Im considering turbocharging within the next year or so.

Also theres a used Borla exhaust system on sale for $99 from New Dimensions. According to them its been cut from another car and would require welding to install. Does anyone know of any good shops in the area to do such work and about how much would it cost? thanks!

Les? *trying to control laughter* Good luck!

That is the only name that I know that will make people in the VW hobby cringe just by hearing it.

Just ask Acme about him..

I bought the same car and have spent time finding little things to go on it. Ive gotten a 40h.p. boost from stock just by adding a Neuspeed P-Flow and putting a Magnaflow 3 DTM muffler with 2/1/4 piping straight to the cat. I also felt a huge difference when I changed out the wheels. I suggest Motegi Racing wheels thats what I used.

Have you verified that on a dyno? Those sound like pretty big gains for the mods youve done...

No actually Ive never dynoed my car but I have used a G-Tech and I know that they arent really perfect but it gives you a good idea. The 2.0Ls put out 110h.p. stock and Im pushing 147 now. So Im guessing its not far off of a 40.h.p. boost. I do believe that the most restrictive parts of the new golfs are the intake and exhaust. Open them both up and your on your way. My next step is a header and Ill post up the affects from that as soon as i put it in.
