My friend just bought a 1991 Golf for $300. The body is straight but the motor has definitely seen better days. Interested in swapping in the 2.0 gti motor want to know what is involved as far as any changes in the mounts and wiring? Also would the stock golf tranny and axles work with the gti motor?
BTW I would go to a VW site and try to do some research but it sounds like Acme wants to see more posts so here you go.
TIA

A new post SWEET! First off I would recommend having it professionally done unless the guy knows the ins and outs of VW motor swaps. I dont know the whole process but Im sure its fairly involved. There is a great shop in Tampa called Cars and Concepts that works specifically with German cars and they would be willing to take on that project. Very nice guys that do quality work! Of course if your friend should get a wild hair up his ass he could always swap out a 1.8t or a VR6 into that thing! E-mail me or PM me if you have any questions! Thanks for the post!

As long as that motor was offered in with that chassis the swap may be relatively easy. Its when you start taking motors from other generations (ie. A3 VR6) and putting them in other cars (ie. A2 Golf) and fabrication becomes necessary. I would check with some of the local shops as Acme suggested. Theyve done it and know whats involved.
