New VW Owner
Ever since I saw my first Golf in Germany back in the late 80's, I've been a closet VW lover. I've always been tempted to purchase a Golf/GTI but I had always been steered away as a result of many from horror stories of the Volkswagen being an unreliable vehicle. I did my research and found that while the new GTI is having its fair share of issues, the Rabbit rated fairly high on reliability and is seldom seen in service for anything other than routine service.
After being thoroughly disgusted with my Focus and Ford Motor Company, I decided to cut my losses now and trade it in on something different. I looked at the Versa, Impreza wagon (non-WRX), and the Rabbit. The Versa interior is hideous and cheap. The Impreza wagon seemed overpriced for the lack of quality (interior is well put together, however the materials are very cheap and the overall feel of the Impreza reeks of thrift).
I ended up at Kuhn where they let me take a 5-speed Rabbit home for the weekend. I immediately fell in love with it. The power is adequate, the handling is nice, and the build quality is superb (it feels like a friggin tank). So today I bit the bullet and took delivery of my '07 Crystal White 2-door Rabbit. It is a 5-speed with the only option being the 17-inch "Vision" wheels. Not really looking to do much to the car, however I am going to add the GTI side skirts and a GTI steering wheel in the not too distant future. I'm also thinking about exhaust and probably springs/dampers.
This is a HUGE upgrade from my piece of shit Focus and I couldn't be happier.
Hopefully I'll have some pics up this weekend.
