Could be misfiring. Is it a 1.8t or 30v V6?

its a 1.8t...it does not sound like a miss fire...more like a tick from the valve train or a cut/tear in the timing belt...not even sure it has a belt...

loose timing chain? i know those go in the vr6's and make a slight clicking noise, maybe need a new tensioner. just a guess though.

Yeah, it has a timing belt. I would find someone with a VAG and see what codes it has. That should be a start as to what the problem is. Did you visually inspect the belt to see what condition it is in? How many miles on the car? If the belt is going bad, you will ruin the motor if it breaks.

Recommended timing belt service is 60K, I would look at the belt and consider changing it if it looks like it hasn't been changed.

When the belt snaps, you'll know. There arent any real signs of is starting to go. It just goes. So my guess is its something else. How's that for help?
