Default Inside view of a VR6 head

This is the long intake port. Bildon started a real good thread in the vr6 engine forum. They are trying to get 250 whp via NA and 2.9 liters VWvortex Forums: VR6 12v engineering project >> 275hp

I don't think it will happen. Even the race-shop guys (who had the fastest NA VR6) couldn't get more than 225 at the wheels, and that motor was worked.

I dont think the race shop guys did any bottom end work though. Pretty sure they stick to a bone stock 2.8 rotating assembly.

Yeah the keep the stock bottom end, but Anthony had an ITB set-up and put about 220 to the wheels. To squeeze another 30 hp out with only a slight increase in displacement would be quite an accomplishment.

i got 209 whp all motor on race gas with a mk4 headgasket, 276's, and worked motor. 250-275 seems a little high without a displacement change.

Yea, Bill has said many times that 250 will be a big hill to climb, but he still wants to try get there. I do agree it will be hard considering they are use a 2.9 block.
Caan when you say worked motor are you talking about increased displacement and head porting? Where did the tq start drop off with that motor?

I try not to stick my nose in the VR6 business(my VR-knowledge is limited), but the ABF(VW Motorsport ABF, that is) made 260hp at the crank. I understand that cost is always the problem, but with the aid of two extra cylinders why is that so hard?

4 valves per cylinder versus 2 valves per cylinder. I am sure the VW motorsport ABF was able to rev a lot higher than any AAA would rev also.

yes, a worked motor. 2.9 euro bottom end with forged internals and a DRS 42/36 BVH. 209 on race and 197 on 93oct.

The torque ran strong past 5000 right until 5600 and fell on its face.

thanks, that is a common theme, most if not all 12v VR6's fall flat at or around 5600 rpm... even with cams and head work.
