Question 91 Golf Wolfsburg Edition question

so basically my situation is this, i recently bought a 1991 VW Golf, nothing wrong with it at all, excellent condition, considering it's age....but it's automatic, is there anywhere i can have the auto/5spd conversion done cheap and quick, btw, it's the 1.8L 8v....thanks!

If memory serves you would also have to change out the digifant ecu to one designed for the 5spd. Sorry I can't think of any places off the top of my head.

that's alright, thanks for the input....i just need as much info on it as possible, since i'm new to the VeeDub scene...i want to learn as much as i can in a short amount of time so i can start working on it....it was a good deal on it, but automatic...i can deal with it for a while, but eventually, want to have a turbo 16v 5spd, but that's for later...lol

The best thing to do would be to have a lot of time, a decent amount of cash and go to a junky.

You'll be looking for a 90-92 Golf or Jetta 8v. As far as I know those are the only years that have the digifant management.

Just take everything as it should make things easier down the road: ECU, harness, tranny, pedal cluster, shift linkage, clutch cable, speedometer cable, I believe even the axles are different(but don't hold me to it). You'd be better off buying a new flywheel and clutch. Also before you put the tranny on rip it apart and replace the rivets that hold the diff together with bolts. From what I understand the most difficult part of the process is the pedal cluster installation.

This is an over-simplified list, but it should set you on the right path. Good Luck, and I'll try to help with any info I have.
