Default 99+ jetta questions

my gf is looking at these. i have heard they have alot of electrical problems but i have never owned one.. what is you guys opinion's on these cars???? what kind of problems do they encounter often? how many miles do they tipically last before alot of problems?? also, i see there are some turbo and some diesle ones (not sure if there are just regular and then turbo diesle or what, but if there are differant motors, is there one i should try to stick with?)

I would stick with a VR6. 1.8t's seem to run into more problems at higher mileage, but that can be said about any turbo vs. naturally aspirated car. Maf, coilpacks, and 99-01 still seemed to have problems with the window regulators (which is a mechanical, not elctrical problem) are the most common issues. TDI will get good gas mileage but are slow as hell, I could never live with one. Give me my 6-speed VR6 and I can get 30 mpg on the highway. Other than the random bullshit problems that could happen with any car, you should be fine.

And for the record, I've had an 01 and have an 03 and 04 currently and haven't had any electrical problems.

If she cares about looks and not speed get the tdi, If you wanna hook it up they have turbo and intercooler upgrades and so on. They ARE rediculously slow stock but with some work they can be quick. ( Dont let people tell you turbo diesel sucks Jaguar almost put out a turbo diesel 2door sports car with good hp numbers

I know a decent amount about motors ect. I am into cars, just more hondas and stuff, never really been a big vw guy. she loves the jetta's though and they seem to be decently priced.. I want the 1.8 for personal fun, i like turbo cars lol.. but really well get whatever is a good deal. she does not care how fast a car is, as long as it gets her around nad looks "cute" . do these usually start crapping around 100k, 150k, 200k??? i know there is always an exeption, but i want to know what milage range to stay away from.
the only mods will probably be cosmetic, maybe a chip or somthing if the car feels slow, but very very minor on the power mods.

You should be able to find a car in very good shape in that price range.
