faulty fuel gauge

faulty fuel gauge
anyone help. my fuel guage on my a3 1.8t quattro sometimes says empty after filling, i can fill the tank park the car for a couple of hours start the engine and the fuel light comes onand vice versa it can be close to empty and show 3/4 of a tank at first i thought it was heavy on fuel.£30.00 will get me about 150 miles steady driving is this right??anyone give me advise please

Check the fuel sending unit. Not sure about audis, but in vws they are on top of the tank right by the back of the rear seat, you should be able to access it from the trunk, it will be a round metal thing with some wires connected to it.
