do i need that thick ass blanket padding thing thats attached to the underside of my hood? i have seen that the 1.8t GLI's dont have this...what is the purpose of it? and do i need it?

 

It's just for sound deading... you don't need it. Mine came with one and my friend (you might know him,Kyle) didn't come with one. But when I drove with him when he had his GTI...you could hear more of the motor.

 

oh well then fuck its comming out..lol

 

It also serves as insulation on for the hood. Removing it could have a negative effect on the hood's finish(excess heat), but it would take awhile to cause any damage if at all.

 

thats another thing that i was thinking about...but all of my friends vw's dont have it..im the only one...so i think im gonna take it off..i will keep it (just snaps into place) and i wll put it back on if anything starts to happen..

 

Keep it on. One your finish starts to go due to heat...you are going to be very upset with yourself. If you want to take useless material out of your car. Take all the fabric out of your trunk.
