Default Matting Transmitions

The 5-spd tranny in my 87 Gti 16 valve is crapped out....
I can get one from a 1990 Corrado for $200 but I dont know how well of a direct replacement it would be or what I would have to do to be able to use it.
If anyone knows or has the transmition i need for the same price or less please let me know

The corrado tranny is an O2A, you need an 020. The 02A is a hydraulic clutch, so you would need to convert your gti to a hydraulic clutch set-up, or I am pretty sure someone sells a convert kit to make the 02A a cable operated clutch.

Edit- just thought I would add you can use any 4 cylinder VW tranny from 1977 through 1999. Thay are all 020.

Any corrado, any passat (up to 1997), and G/J III Tranny, they are all 02A's. The passat and the corrado have shorter gearing compared to the G/J version. 3.67 final vs 3.39 final.

You will want to swap the gauge cluster for a MK3 cluster, cause the MK2 uses a speedo cable, the 02A will have a speed sensor that works with the MK3 cluster, other than that I think you will be OK (Other than converting the clutch set-up).

Edit- you may be able to use the corrado cluster, that should work with your MK2 dash since the corrado is a MK2 car and it should have the speed sensor set-up for an 02A.
