Default Wheel question

Any of you guys have or heard about aftermarket wheels vibrating at higher speeds.. like 70-80 mph?

I got 17" FLIK Artics on my jetta and my steering wheel shakes at 70-80 mph. I had stock 15" inch hubbies on before this set. I've had them balanced about 4 times at 4 different places. I've heard watch the tire pressure, the tires aren't exactly "round," aluminum wheels, etc

Any idea besides selling them, and driving under 70 and over 80

thanks

Could be a bubble in the tire or a bent rim.

when you got your wheels did they come with a center hub ring by anychance? Some aftermarket wheel companies sell CHR to reduce vibrations at high speed. If you didn't, call the company you got your wheels from and ask them where to get them.

If the tires aren't exactly "round" then that's probably your problem. The hub ring suggestion is another good one. Instead of just getting them balanced on a normal balance machine, take them to a place that has a road force balancer like a Hunter GSP9700.

Defintately sounds like the symtoms of the wheels not being hub centric. A friend had a similar problem that was solved by hub centric rings. Call Edge Racing and see if Fliks require them.

they came with the hub centric rings and they're on there for sure... i went to Transwheels in Lutz and they have a road force balancer. Said everything was fine, and added some air to my tires, which helped a bit.. I'm just kind of dealing with it

Try swapping back to you stock wheels and see if that solve the problems. If it does at least you've isolated the problem. Have you tried swapping the front wheels with the back to see if it's just a problem with one wheel?

yeah, i just rotated the back tires to the front and front to back and still get the problem... weird huh??

i haven't yet put my old wheels back on.. could it be alignment? I know it can't be too far off because my tread wear is pretty much perfect.

thanks for the help zealot! you post of vwfixx alot right??

You may want to get your alignment checked out but i don't think that , that , that's it, sounds like their is something wrong with the wheels themselves(wether they are defective or not). But i've never had that kind of experience with aftermarket wheels if anything , more road feel/harshness but smoother at higher speeds then factory wheels usually are (if they are larger wheels).
