Default Just bought a 96 golf gti

Its a 2.slow 5spd and I was wondering if there is any point in modding the motor. I am going to be buying some suspention stuff fo it this weekend. As Im more concerned with the way the car handles. Im not intrested in doing a swap anytime soon but when I do I kinda want to do a 1.8t anyone have a general idea what a swap would run If I did the work myself?

first, welcome to the world of VWs, although im no longer in the scene. dont mod that motor, it wont make much sense. suspension stuff is fine. a 1.8t is a good swap, just look on eBay for swaps. im not really sure what you're looking at price wise. good luck!

Don't bother with that motor. Stick with the suspension. 1.8T is a good mod. Go onto vwvortex, go into the MKIII forums and search for punkassjim on there. He did the 1.8T mod to his GTI and it looks amazing, he is pretty much the #1 guy to go to.

you should look for an older audi 1.8t that has drive-by-cable, not the drive-by-wire, so you actually have a physical connection to the throttle. also i think they are easier than the newer motors to swap in.

Buy a canadien G60 Passat, AWD Supercharged and drop the whole set up in. Only know of two people who have done that.

Definitely not worth it unless you want to replace the charger every ten thousand miles (or less). Way too much work involved in that swap for the results you would get. I would get a 16v head and pistons, make a 2.0 16v ABA turbo.
