engine smoke:(!
My engine started smoking for no reason(that i'm aware of) tonight. It wasn't smoking on the way home or anything, but when i got home, it started smoking. I know it could be anything... so any lead into the right direction would be great. Maybe the weather? its like 50degrees, so could that be it? thanks.
btw.... i have a 1998 vw jetta vr6

yeah, it did it again, and again, and again. my engine coolant was almost non existent. i thought it was a hose, but the smoke seems to be coming from the exhaust manifold, any thoughts?
it was a white smoke, that smelled weird...

Highly doubt you warped the head unless you let it over heat real bad, and it is damn hard to warp a VR block. It is a cheap fix if you do it yourself, a gasket only costs around 30 bucks. But if you go to a shop, they will charge a lot for the labor, probably over 500. Also how many miles on your car, you might need to put on new manifold gaskets when the manifolds are taken off. Also VR headbolts are stretch bolts, so they are garbage once removed, you will need a new set. My suggestion is get ARP bolts, then you will never need another set. Hope that helps.
thanks for all the responses, but i found out it was a hose with a hole in it. i believe it was coming from the radiator. my engine coolant was low to non exihistent... i just cut a little piece off and stuck it back on. false alarm. thanks though.
