Default quick question

ok i am in the market for a new car--i have looked at some other makes/models...i ran across a 96 GTI vr6 --lowwwww miles power sunroof and all that..drove it and nothin is wrong...then i see in autotrader a 2001 golf 2.0 5 speed no sunroof all power and cheap as hell...i know the vr6 is gonna be quicker no doubt---but my question is how does the 2.0 compare and how quick can i expect it to be both stock and with bolt ons..if anyone could help me out with some basic stuff on the 2.0 i woujld appreciate it i am not too familiar with the vw 2.0--any help is appreciated--thanks-brad

man you'll hate yourself if you get the 2.0 (better known as 2.slow). my mom had a 98 jetta 2.0 and she hated it, said it couldn't get out of its own way. i had a 96 gti vr6 also and loved it. the 96 is easier to work on and not as expensive as the 01.

you'll enjoy the vr6 a lot more than the 2.0

The 2.0 is going to be slow. I'll tell you that flat out. Reliable, but slow. Robb, a friend of mine, had a supercharger on it (smaller one, but still) and it still only ran 16's (I think? Someone verify this please) & it was expensive to do. A 2.0T would get better numbers, but it's going to be EXPENSIVE as well. If you want something quick and decently reliable get the VR6 with low mileage. That'd be my choice. Unless you spend a ton of money, you're not going to be happy with the performance of the 2.0.

stock you should see 24-26 mpg, depending how you drive.

robb's car ran a 16 flat from what i hear. the stock vr6 runs like highish 15's, but with bolt ons, can dip into the 14's.

there are several supercharger kits, most will get you to the 250 whp range. ATP sells turbocharger kits, as well as Matrix engineering. check out tampaveedubs.com, vwvortex.com, and vwfixx.com.

you can get serious power from the vr6 if you want to get into it. some guys up north have the fastest vr6's on stock bottom ends. they all run 11.5's and lower.

i don't know what i plan on doing with my car, i had a vr6 shoehorned into a 1991 gti. i'll have to post a picture of it.

High 15's? maybe with grandma driving. Fastest ever totally stock GTI VR6 12V ran a 14.7, a fairly good driver should be able to hit low 15's stock.

whatever, it was something he could go by. yes there are big variances in times with cars equipped with a vr6. some people might muster a high 15, some with a freak engine can hit low 15s.
