Ian is a film producer on the verge of a breakthrough in his career and a breakdown of his marriage to his actress wife Anna. Ready to take the next step in life, he decides to have his wife murdered, and his mistress is all too happy to help out, offering up her connections. The nefarious scheme seems to fall into place as they engage the services of a well-trained, experienced assassin.

But things don't quite go as planned when it comes time to execute the scheme, putting Ian's hopes for his life in peril. Directed by Tony Diaz from a script written by Peter Zizzo, who also stars as Ian, this devilishly fun black comedy has the shiny gleam and seedy bright colors of its Hollywood milieu, where everyone is hungry for success and will do anything for it. Within this amoral, hilariously shallow world, Ian plots, schemes and masterminds his way to the next level, going to drastic,

nasty ends to get what he wants. Opening with a nuclear-level marital fight with Anna, the strength of the film is fully realized, complex yet clear writing, economically and efficiently laying out the characters, motivations and world. We see just how Ian's marriage has become toxic, with accusations of misery and infidelity. But we also that Ian is hypocritical and manipulative, with a mistress on the side. The pillow talk between him and his mistress shapeshifts into a discussion about killing Ian's wife -- something

that Ian is actually torn about morally, though he goes along with it as his mistress sets everything up. Ian continues to feel squeamish, but the momentum expertly builds as the dire scheme falls into place, each piece falling like dominos. As an actor, Zizzo is fun to watch as the devious, garrulous Ian, a man who never lets go of his slick glibness, even in criminal situations. Part of the fascination is wondering just how far he will go to get what he wants. As he gets deeper into his scheming, part of the

dramatic question becomes not just whether or not Ian succeeds, but just how morally bankrupt and callous he can become and whether or not there will be any consequences to his actions and behavior, especially as he creeps within reach of his dark dream. SAVASANA, INC answers those dramatic questions in a deeply satisfying and darkly entertaining fashion, with an excellent twist that is both hilarious and in alignment with Hollywood's skewed moral logic.

We won't spoil it here, but it is clever enough to spin off into its own Hollywood property, though it would likely reflect the short's hilariously scathing tone and witty, biting characterizations. As for the short itself, the noirish narrative reveals itself as a nasty little fable about the poison promise of Hollywood -- the emptiness of surfaces, the hollowness of relationships where everyone is playing a role and the seductive hunger for success at all costs.
