I was 29 when I saw Apocalypse Now! It premiered on August 15th, 1979 at the Ziegfeld Theater in Manhattan, tickets had to be bought in advance through the New York Post. I always found the music of The Doors to be hypnotic and as much as I had read in advance of seeing Apocalypse Now, I was surprised that The End was used in the movie.

The opening scene and the song put me in a trance for the entire movie, the effect stuck with me for a long time. Its one of my favorite films. It was a few days before my wedding and my wife-to-be was not as enthusiastic, less than halfway through the movie she went to the lobby and waited, along with several other women, for it to end.

I remember a TV newscast where a guy leaving a theater in Cannes was asked what he thought of the movie, "that's like asking me how I felt after my mothers funeral".

I first saw this movie in 1981 on HBO. A kid from Ecuador was hanging out with us and was incredibly excited to see it again. I remember how he had laughed so hard when the surfing scene came on. But, more than anything, I was mesmerized from start to finish. Incredibly made and superbly performed.

I watched this an hour at a time over three days. This presentation has enriched my soul.....to hear the character of Francis describing in detail his thought process, and how he dealt with the unending adversities he encountered during production of this timeless masterpiece. Thank you for sharing it.

I’ve seen this movie 1 million times but I got to see the latest directors cut right before the pandemic at a new theater that had one of the biggest screens I’ve ever gone to. I would say it was even better than the first time I saw it!

If you ever have a chance to see it on the big screen don’t hesitate to go, it will blow your mind!

This was the first film I saw in the West after I fled Romania in 1979, in December in the city of Trieste, Italy, in a cinema with a thousand seats. I was overwhelmed by the greatness of this film and what was more explosive was the fact that I was the only spectator in the room. That shocked me. It was the first performance of the day at 11:00 am.

Outside in the shop windows there were about 10 posters promoting the film, over which the title OGGI was pasted on the diagonal. I ran into the refugee camp and announced this extraordinary film I had seen about the war in Viet Nam. Everyone asked me: What's the name of the movie. I answered them enthusiastically: OGGI. The next day we filled the van with 15 young people and went to town to see the movie. On the first street I saw a smaller cinema in which the OGGI movie was displayed and

cost only 5 thousand ITALIAN LIRAS compared to yesterday where I had paid 25 thousand Italian LIRA. As we wear poor, the price agreed to us, of course the cinemas of the Catholic Church with wooden chairs in Italy, where you pay only two thousand Italian lira, and we entered a room with about a hundred seats and a very small screen.

Start the movie with images I didn't recognize. They were naked women and continuous sex. Of course, the young people liked it. I don't even think to convince them to go out. I later found out that OGGI means Today. And later I realized that the title of the movie was Apocalypse Now.

Fantastic to hear Francis’ commentary which provides greater understanding. This movie was so close to being one of the best ever made. I could see that he struggled with identifying a suitable ending and now understand why.

Fascinating peek into the mind of a great director on making one of his masterpieces and the deliberate decisions and occasional fortunate accidents that make it all happen. This is also a nearly 3 hour ASMR video. Coppola has a surprisingly gentle and calming voice that was mesmerizing to listen too.
